How to play
Click or tap any white square to select it. Clicking the same square again switches the direction between Across and Down, and you can also pick a clue from the list to jump straight to that entry. Type with your keyboard, or use the on-screen letter buttons if you are on a touch device. Arrow keys move around the grid, and Backspace deletes the letter you are on.
The number in the corner of a square tells you which clues it belongs to: the same number appears in both the Across and Down lists when a square starts two answers. Every answer is at least three letters long and crosses at least one other answer, so a letter you are confident about will often unlock the word running the other way. The Filled counter tracks how much of the grid you have completed, and the timer starts the moment you select your first square.
Tips and strategy
Start with the clues you are certain about rather than working strictly from the first square. Short entries are usually the easiest way in, because there are fewer possible words of three letters than of seven. When you have a couple of letters in a longer answer, say the pattern aloud or write out the possibilities mentally — seeing the shape of a word is often faster than reasoning about its definition.
Watch the crossings. If you are unsure about a three-letter entry but confident about the longer word that runs through it, the crossing letter will usually settle the shorter one. Use Check sparingly: it marks any letter that is wrong, which is useful when you are stuck, but it also removes the satisfaction of solving it yourself. If a single word is holding you up, Reveal Word fills only the entry you have selected, leaving the rest of the puzzle intact.
